Another issue in "The Outsiders" was that many of the gangs had deadly weapons. For example, a switchblade, a broken glass bottle, a gun and their fists were often used in gang violence situations. The Greasers were known for carrying a switchblade to help protect themselves when they were jumped by a Soc. The Soc gang used more high end means to attack their opponent off guard. If it was not for these weapons, the story would have been completely different. Bob would have never been killed, Ponyboy and Johnny would not have to hide from the Socs, and Johnny and Dally would not have ever died.
DRINKING:
Drinking was a large part of the fighting that occured during this time of gangs and violence. The Greasers were labeled as idiots and scum for drinking; however, when the Socials would drink, it was acceptable in their society. Socials often drank higher end liquor and beer, during social functions. The Greasers would drink beer from bottles and did not have as much access to the higher end liquor for monetary purposes.
